Elbow Beach golf - do it in an exotic way
Elbow Beach Resort is located on Bermuda's South Shore, five minutes from downtown Hamilton. The resort has a golf putting green to help you warm up before heading to one of the nearby 18-hole golf courses, such as The Mid Ocean Club, Tucker's Point, or Belmont Hills. The Mid Ocean Club, in picturesque Tucker's Town, is home to one of the world's greatest golf courses. Built in 1921 by Charles Blair Macdonald and reworked in the 1950's by Robert Trent Jones, the course has hosted some of the world's most famous personalities, including Babe Ruth, President Eisenhower, Sir Winston Churchill, The Duke of Windsor and George Bush. Golf Digest ranked it the world's number 45 outside the United States. Mid Ocean plays a scenic 6548 yards off the back tees. Tucker's Point course plays to 6,361 yards and par 70 from the back tees. Compared to the Mid Ocean course where the most dramatic holes follow the shoreline, Tucker's Point is a course where "one-leg is both the same" will not serve you well. It's hilly, to put it mildly - the locals call it "The Goat Hill Course" - which means, of course, that you'll also enjoy some of best views on the islands. Belmont Hills - "an ingenious course which favors precision over power" - plays a short 6,100 yards. Belmont Hills was completely redesigned in 2002 by Algie Pulley. Faced, not only with the problems of drastic reconstruction but also those of limited space, Pulley has created a diminutive monster, a real test of fortitude where accurate iron play is a necessity. Inevitably a product of the colonial past; the British introduced golf to Bermuda. Today it is an extremely popular activity on the island and there are no less than 8 excellent courses, most of which offer stunning ocean vistas. Bermuda offers an excellent variety of golf courses that are spread throughout the island. Each one provides a unique challenge and all of them give you stunning vistas of Bermuda's flora and azure waters. Weather you want to play a par 3 executive golf course, a 9 hole golf course at Ocean View or one of the more challenging 18-hole golf courses like Port Royal Golf Course or Tucker's Point Golf Course, the option is entirely yours. If you want to practice your game Bermuda also offers an excellent driving range and golf academy.
